TunaOne of the fastest fish in the ocean, tuna roam far and wide, spawning, developing and maturing a long way from shore. They spawn in tropical waters, where the female lays 14 to 15 million eggs per year. In line with our strict sustainability guidelines, John West predominantly uses Skipjack Tuna. We do not use Yellowfin Tuna. |

HerringHerrings are small oily fish found in the shallow, temperate waters of the North Atlantic, the Baltic Sea, the North Pacific, and the Mediterranean. There are 15 species known to science. Of all species, it’s the Atlantic Herring that’s most often seen on supermarket shelves. They are fished in Canadian waters extending north to Labrador as well as around the coasts of Greenland, Iceland and the British Isles. A prolific species, females lay between 30,000 and 75,000 eggs at a time. Herring feed at night in the upper water column, following the massive vertical migrations of zooplankton that inhabit deep waters by day and surface waters by night. |
